Stop renting a proxy. The models are already here.
JanitorAI solved distribution. An enormous library of community-written character cards, a front end built for scenes instead of chat, and a culture that starts from the assumption that adults are adults. What it never solved is the engine room. You are either queued behind everyone else on the house model, or you are out in the Discords hunting a reverse proxy, pasting an endpoint into a settings box, and discovering halfway through a scene that it has gone dark. A meaningful share of the community's collective expertise is really just endpoint maintenance — which key still works, which host is up, which one silently swapped the model out from under you.
OpenRogue is that engine room, hosted and boring in the way infrastructure is supposed to be. The uncensored tunes that circulate through proxy channels — Magnum v4 72B, Euryale 70B, Rocinante 12B, Hermes 3 405B — sit in a dropdown. No keys, no URLs, no queue, nothing to maintain. Pick a model, start the scene, swap the model halfway through without losing the conversation. What we do not have is the card library, and that is a real difference rather than a footnote: on OpenRogue you write the persona into a Project instead of browsing one somebody else built. If discovery is what you love about JanitorAI, keep it. This is a comparison, not an eviction notice.

Choose OpenRogue when the model is the bottleneck: you already know which tunes you want, you are tired of maintaining an endpoint to reach them, and you want a scene that survives a model swap, a device change and a long night without forgetting its own plot.
Choose JanitorAI when the character library is the product for you. Thousands of cards written by people with taste, a browsing experience built for finding them, and a community around it — none of which OpenRogue has or is trying to build. If you mostly want to open somebody else's character and go, stay.
No. Every model in the lineup is hosted and served directly — you pick one from the dropdown and start typing. There is no endpoint to configure, no key to rotate, and no third party between you and the model that can quietly swap it for a cheaper one.
The open roleplay tunes that circulate in those communities are the same ones in OpenRogue's library: Magnum v4 72B for prose intensity, Euryale 70B for long coherent campaigns, Rocinante 12B for fast exchanges, and Hermes 3 405B when a scene needs frontier-scale depth. They are in the dropdown rather than behind a URL.
There is no import tool — this is the honest gap. What you can do is create a Project, paste the character definition into the project instructions, and every chat inside that project plays the persona with whichever model you choose. It works well for characters you care about and it is tedious for a library of fifty.
It depends on what JanitorAI is pointed at. On OpenRogue the ceiling is fixed and knowable: Euryale 70B and the Hermes models carry 131K of context, which is long enough for a campaign that runs for weeks without the early chapters falling out. Through a proxy your effective memory is whatever that endpoint allows, which is often much shorter than advertised.
There is a free tier — 10 messages a day, no card required — which is enough to judge the models but not enough to live in. Rogue $10/mo removes the daily cap and opens the full uncensored library. JanitorAI's free tier is more generous; that is a fair point against us.
No. There is no card marketplace, no public profiles and no discovery feed. OpenRogue is a model platform with a good chat interface on top, so if community discovery is half of why you use JanitorAI, you would be giving up half of it.
